Traveling to Europe is a lifetime experience. And this experience can turn out into either a disaster or a sweet memory depending on one thing – your accommodation. Agreed that you will spend most time outdoors. But it is still worthwhile to have a nice home you can look forward to return to. One which will give you comfort, has basic necessities to plug and play, is safe and has good connectivity to remaining parts of the city. So in this article, I am sharing the Best Places To Stay in the beautiful city Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany which has been nicknamed as Germany’s Greenest town.
Recommendations are based on my real-life experience as we had stayed in these places. Alternate recommendations are based on what I think will be good.
My top recommendation is Friedrich Boutique Apartment (also known as Boutique Aparthotel Friedrich)
USP of this apartment
The best thing about Friedrich Boutique Apartment is its location. You cross the road and will find yourself at Europaplatz tram station from where you can get different line trams to all parts of this small German town. And adjacent to the tram station starts the main shopping street of Freiburg where you will find all the major brand showrooms.
Popular tourist spots of Freiburg like Munster church, Munsterplatz, Schlossbergbahn, Stadgarten, University etc are easily accessible either by foot or by tram from Friedrich Boutique Apartment. Bonus is the accessibility to Go Asia grocery store which is about 5min walk from apartment and where you can find lots of Indian grocery (including pickles and papad 😊).
What To Expect In The Apartment
Coming to the apartments, Friedrich Boutique has 3 floors with each floor having about 6 apartments. Before you arrive, you will receive mail from Friedrich Boutique apartments stating your room number, check-in time and the instructions along with password to obtain key. You enter the password on keypad and key pops out using which you can enter the room.
Check-in time is usually around 4pm and check-out is around 11am.
As you enter, there are hooks on the wall to hang your jackets. Each room has ample of hooks and cupboards to store luggage/clothes. Hall has sofa cum bed along with dining table and chairs.
As with any service apartment in Europe, you are provided with kitchen (induction stove and chimney), dishwasher (with capsules for washing dishes), coffee machine, water kettle, cutlery and basic condiments like salt/sugar/coffee capsules. If you need anything extra, you can take it from basement by informing the reception (note – reception officer sits only for few hours during check-out and check-in time. So, you will have to plan visit accordingly).
Rooms are big and centrally air conditioned. You can control temperature of your apartment from the switchboard near entrance. The Wi-Fi worked fine and we never bothered to switch on TV as there is so much to do in and around Freiburg.
There is washing machine with dryer located in basement and guests can use it free of cost. Detergent is kept there for use.
This being a service apartment, there is no option of breakfast being provided. You will have to cook everything on your own. Being close to commercial centre, you can walk to many of the nearby restaurants. Do try out Enchiladas (near Stadgarten) and Veggie Liebe restaurant near university area. Just don’t try the pizzeria adjacent to apartment as he cheated us by charging differently than what was printed on the menu card and later saying menu card prices are wrong.
Have a look at the inside view of this apartment:
If you don’t find availability in Friedrich Boutique Apartment, you can look for Freiburg Appartements Friedrichring or Mercure Hotels Freiburg. Both are in the same area to this apartment and hence will offer nearly same benefits.
All these rooms can be booked via Booking.com. Hope you enjoy your stay here. Looking forward to your experiences 🙂
